2 Days Ngorongoro Crater
Tanzania, Africa

Soaring high above the African plains of Tanzania and Kenya stands the highest mountain on the African continent, Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft.). Our Mount Kilimanjaro trip with a 2-day safari and exploration of the Ngorongoro Crater has been designed to give you the best of what the area has to offer and will be the trip of a lifetime!

Many people come to Tanzania each year seeking the eternal snows of this very popular mountain. But most people don't realize that to reach those snows you have the chance to visit the most diverse display of ecological zones in the world. As you ascend the mountain, you pass through 5 different ecological zones -- and you're only 3 degrees from the equator! When foreigners first discovered Mount Kilimanjaro in 1848, Johannes Rebmann reported his findings of a snowcapped mountain in eastern equatorial Africa to the Royal Geographical Society in Britain. The experts didn't believe him.

To give you the best possible opportunity for a successful hike and climb, we will first spend 2 days at Mt. Meru hiking around the slopes of Tanzania's fourth highest peak. Since our private camp at Mt. Meru is at 6,000 ft., this will help you acclimatize. During the climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro, we will use the Shira route, which has a 96% rate of success. By using the Shira route, we can spend more time getting to the summit (8 days), making your time on the mountain almost twice as long as most other companies allow. You will find most companies have you spending 7 hours getting to the summit, starting your summit day aound midnight! We are one of very few companies to camp much further up the mountain, keeping the amount of time needed to reach the summit down to 3 hours or less. This way, you're not worn out before you reach the summit. Through extremely careful planning and extensive high altitude experience, we provide you a better chance to acclimatize and more time to enjoy yourself along the way.

After your climb, we've added a 2-day safari in the Tarangire National Park and 2 more days exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. During both of these excursions, you will be staying in luxury tented camps with experienced guides. This is a great way to view a large variety of wild animals and see some of the other spectacular sights Tanzania has to offer.

So if you're a fit, healthy and experienced hiker, explorer or mountaineer, this trip will be challenging, rewarding and an experience you'll never forget.

DIFFICULTY RATING FOR CLIMBING MOUNT KILIMANJARO: STRENUOUS
6 - 10 hours of hiking per day depending on trail conditions. To enjoy a strenuous trek, you need to plan a fitness routine, or already be involved in a daily fitness regimen. You should be able to hike for long periods of time over steep terrain without much difficulty. You should be aware of how altitude affects you. If you know you have a bad reaction to extreme altitude, this isn't a trip you should consider.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY:
No technical climbing skills will be needed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on the trails we have chosen. This is a hike on steep, rocky and varied terrain at high altitudes. You will not need to be on a harness for the ascent or use any winter mountaineering equipment. Only trekking poles are required as auxiliary equipment.
