Fixed Departures


As of this year AT is proud to offer several fixed departure dates. This list contains many of our favorite trips. A few of these trips will be run in conjunction with Eastern Mountain Sports. We are proud to be the EMS Travel Consultant and ground support for their adventure travel needs.


15 DAY ---- FANN MOUNTAINS
UZBEKISTAN
July 23 - August 6, 2006
The Fann Mountains are considered to be some of the most beautiful in Central Asia. This fully supported 10-day camping trek travels through narrow canyons, picturesque river valleys and high mountain passes. You'll be exposed to the local Tajik people, who still speak the anicent Sogdian language – the same language heard by Alexander the Great when he explored this area.

Grade:
Moderate Max. Altitude: 4040m
Duration: 15 days (10 days trekking)
Season: July - mid September
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Tashkent. Fly to Bukhara. Sightseeing. 2: Drive to Samarkand. Sightseeing. 3: Drive to Marguzor lakes. 4/13: On trek. 14: Return to Samarkand. 15: Drive to Tashkent. Trip ends.
Support: Donkeys will carry all gear, food and camping equipment.

Difficulty: 11 nights camping 12 days hiking. Average time trekking each day: 5 - 6 hours. Highest altitude reached is 11,480 ft. No special technical skills are needed, only experience hiking on rocky dirt trails and good fitness.Age is also not a factor.


15 DAY ---- MOUNT ELBRUS (18,435 ft)
RUSSIA

August 12 - 26, 2006
Mount Elbrus is known as the highest peak in Europe. Like Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, this peak can be climbed by just about anyone who is fit and in good health. Unlike many Mount Elbrus trips by otherr companies, you'll be fully supported and acclimatized, thanks to a few days of mountaineering training and hikes from our base hotel in the Baksan Valley. We'll use the local Baksan Valley alpine meadows, glaciated mountain passes and hikes up some of the easier summits, which provide fitness and views of the Caucasus Mountain Range.
Grade: Strenuous. Max Altitude: 5642m
Duration:15 days (10 days trekking)
Season: July - mid September
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Moscow. City tour. Hotel. 2: Flight to Mineralnye Vody. Drive to Baksan Valley. 3/9: On trek. 10/12: Elbrus ascent. 13: Return to hotel. 14: Drive to Mineralnye Vody. Flight to St.Petersburg. 15: City tour. Transfer to the airport. Trip ends.
Support: Porters for group camping gear and food. You'll have to carry your own sleeping bag, pad and personal equipment. A porter can be hired to help you with your load.

15 DAY ---- TUVA REGION & SAYAN MOUNTAINS
SOUTHERN SIBERIA
August 10 - 24, 2006
Located in southern Siberia, on the northern ridge of Mongolia, the region of Tuva is still unspoiled by tourism and was closed by the former Soviet Union for half a century. The capital of this area is Kyzyl, and is the very center of Asia.Our fully supported camping trek takes us to the high peaks and alpine lakes of the Sayan Mountains, in southwest Tuva.
Grade: Moderate Duration: 16 days (11 days trekking)
Season: July - September
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Moscow. Overnight flight to Krasnoyarsk.
2: Flight Krasnoyarsk - Kyzyl. Hotel. 3: Kyzyl sightseeing. 4: Drive to the beginning of the trek. Camp. 5/13: On trek. 14: Drive to Abakan. Hotel. 15: Flight Ababkan - Moscow. Hotel. 16: Flight home.

Support:
Horses will carry all group camping equipment, food and tents, along with your gear. You'll only have to carry a day pack.

15 DAY - TIEN SHAN CELESTIAL MOUNTAINS
KIRGHIZSTAN
July 8 - 24, 2006
Much of the small republic of Kirghizstan, which is a neighbor to Kazakhstan, sits at an elevation of approximately 9,800 ft. with half of the country covered in permanent snow. The Tien Shan mountains are almost as high as the Pamir, but much less rugged and stark. The region is rich in alpine meadows, with the largest fresh water lake in Central Asia, Issyk-Kul. The name Issyk-Kul translates to "Sacred Lake;" and despite it's altitude of 16,400 ft., it is still warm in the summer.
This is a backpacking trek with everyone being required to carry their own personal equipment, clothing, sleeping bag and mattress. Porters will be hired to carry our food, tents and other group equipment.

Grade: Moderate. Max Altitude: 3700m
Duration:15 days (10 days trekking)
Season: July - early September.
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Almaty. 2: Drive to the mountains. 3/12: On trek. 13: Drive to Issyk-Kul Lake. 14: Return to Almaty. 15: Trip ends.
Support: Porters for group food and camping equipment. This is a backpacking trip and you will be expected to carry your sleeping bag, pad and personal equipment.

23 DAY --- MARTHA VALLEY TREK
w/ STOK KANGRI CLIMB

LADAHK, INDIA
August 6 - 27, 2006/2007
Many people call the Ladhak region of India "Little Tibet," because the dominant popluation are Buddhists who migrated from the Tibetan Plateau centuries ago. The region is arid, with moonscrape-like valleys and canyons that will make you think you're in the desert southwest of the USA. This fully supported camping trek is topped off with a non-techincal climb of Stok Kangri (20,075 ft.).

 

18 DAY ---- ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT TO JOMSOM
KATHMANDU, NEPAL
November 1 - 18, 2006/2007
This fully support 14-day teahouse trek takes you from the lowland terraced farmlands up to the Manang region and over the Thorung La at 17,599 ft. All the while, you'll be circimnavigating the Annapurna Himal, with peaks over 26,000 ft. cast against the cobalt blue skies of this remote region. Considered one of the most geologically diverse treks in Nepal, it exposes you to a cultural blend of Newarie, Tamang, Gurung and Sherpa peoples. This trek can be enjoyed by anyone in good fitness and health.


24 DAY ----- MERA PEAK (21,825 ft.) CLIMB
KATHMANDU, NEPAL
March 7 - 30
October 23 - Nov. 15
2006/2007
Mera Peak, at 21,825-ft., is the highest peak of the category, "trekking peak" in Nepal's Himalaya. It is also one of the most popular peaks to climb in Nepal. If you reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with an uncomprised view of Mount Everest, which is only 12k from Mera's summit. The route to Mera Peak is remote and challenging, with steep and rocky trails. Climbing Mera Peak is a mountaineering experience as far as gear and altitude, but mostly just a long hike to the summit without need for much in the way of technical skills. This is a fully supported camping trek, our highly experience Sherpa staff will work with members to make sure everyone understands what is needed each step of the way.


19 DAY ---- EVEREST BASE CAMP
KATHMANDU, NEPAL
Hike up Kala Pattar 18,300-ft

This is the classic trek to the foot of Mount Everest, following in the footsteps of the most famious mountaineers in the world. Spring is the best time to go if you're interested in the drama that usually transpires when major expeditions are waiting to climb. Voted one of the top ten places people wanted to visit in their lifetimes, this trek is the definition of a "once in a lifetime" experience. This is a fully supported teahouse trek. If we have a large group tents, will be provided, but we'll still eat meals in the teahouses.

 

25 DAY ---- EVEREST EXTRAVAGANZA
KATHMANDU, NEPAL
Trekking circuit covering the entire Khumbu region
March 21 - April 14
October 25 - Nov. 18
2006/2007

If you want to experience everything the Khumbu has to offer, then join us for this very challenging trip. You'll visit Everest Base Camp, then head over the Cho La Pass (17,482 ft.) down to Gokyo Lakes. You'll have time to climb Gokyo Ri (18,200 ft.) before we head over the Renjo La (17,515 ft.) and descend down to the Nangpa Valley. We'll visit the monastery at Thame before heading down to Namche and the end of our trip in Lukla, where we fly back to Kathmandu. This is a fully supported combination of camping and teahouses. Age isn't a factor in joining this trip, but fitness and good health are very important.
