Annapurna Sanctuary
Foothill Culture to High Mountain Adventure
3 Nights in Kathmandu
14 Days Trekking

NEPAL

As with each Adventurous Trekker trip, we try to combine the best of what each area has to offer -- putting together trips that are not just memorable, but also beautifully scenic. We feel that cultural and geological diversity are what make the Annapurna Sanctuary trip so special.

First you'll fly into Kathmandu and will be met at the airport by our friendly staff. Next you'll be taken to a comfortable hotel in the district of Thamel and dinner that night will be a social get together, so that everyone can get acquainted. The next day, a guide will take you out for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu's cultural icons and religious shrines.

Our trek starts with the short flight to Pokhara, the third largest city in Nepal. Pokhara sits on a picturesque lake, and like a mirror reflects the Annapurna Himal in its waters. From the airport, we set off by automobile to the start of our trek, which is the Annapurna foothill village of Nayapul. The trail winds through terraced farms and mysterious valleys of bamboo. In the distance, snow capped peaks get closer with each footstep, as we hike toward our goals of Ghorapani and Poon Hill. From Ghorapani, a view of the entire Annapurna Himal is spread out before you, with peaks white against the dark blue sky. If you're an early riser, it's only a 45-minute hike to the summit of Poon Hill for that once-in-a-lifetime photo. As the sun rises, the mountains turn from dark blues to blazing oranges and reds - until finally turning bright white against the cobalt blue sky.

After Ghorapani, we'll hike along a ridgeline for 4 days with many more impressive views as we follow the Annapurna Himal to the entrance of the Annapurna Sanctuary. You will be staying for one night in this amphitheater of snow and ice, which gives you the opportunity to photograph Annapurna I (26,539 ft.), Machhupuchhre (22,950 ft.) and Fang (25,083 ft.) in all their natural beauty.

Once finished, we will head back to the warmth of the foothills and finally back to Pokhara. We'll have lunch before our flight back to Kathmandu for one more night before you're departure for home.On the final night, the group will get together for a final farewell dinner.

On the morning of your departure for home, a staff member will escort you back to the airport with final instructions for depart.

Difficulty: Moderate
You will be hiking 5 - 6 hours each day of the trek. Anyone in good health who exercises regularly can manage this trip's hills. This is not a fast paced trek, but a hike to witness the culture & visual beauty of this unusual region.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY WITH THE ADVENTUROUS TREKKER

01) We pay our staff fair wages (almost always higher than our competitors), and make sure they have appropriate clothing for the area we're traveling to. We adhere to the pay scale and treatment rules outlined by the nonprofit watchdog group Porters Progress.

02) Each group is equipped with a state-of-the-art water purifier, instead of taking the chance with boiled water.

03) Our pricing is inclusive, that means you pay one price which includes virtually everything (for exceptions, see the "What isn't Included" list in the left column.

04) We can arrange discounted international airfare, at no extra charge.

05) The right staff can make all the difference in your trek. Our staff is incredibly dedicated, most of them have been working with us for six to eight years. All of our Nepalese guides are highly trained to understand western standards and needs. They have all been trained and certified as professional guides by the Nepalese Government.

06) Safety is our first concern. That is why we keep our group sizes small, so no one who may not be feeling their best gets overlooked. We always bring enough staff to assure that if you're not feeling well, you'll be assigned a highly trained person to stay with you and attend to your needs. We never leave our members alone during a trek. If at any time you don't feel up to continuing with the group, you'll be kept comfortable and safe by your assigned staffmember, and either catch up when you can or we'll try to meet you on the return trip. You will never be left alone and unattended on an Adventurous Trekker trek.
